Laser Dentistry
Waterlase MD laser from Biolase

Introducing the latest in drill-less dentistry. We now have the new Waterlase MD laser from Biolase, which is a patented laser made for drill-less dentistry. This revolutionary laser can easily be used in the removal of dental cavities without drilling and without any shots (Most of the time). The Waterlase MD can easily cut through enamel and composite fillings (white fillings) for painless and anxiety free dentistry. The Waterlase MD is a multi-use laser, as it can easily be used on soft tissue, specifically for gum disease, as well as hard tissue, including bone, for residual infections due to periodontal disease and old failed root canals. Welcome to 21st century dentistry at its best.

Laser Assisted Deep Cleaning

In the event of gum disease or periodontitis from mild to severe, the laser is the tool and modality of choice.  Laser is a gentle, conservative and non-invasive alternative to the old-fashion non-laser cut and suture method. Utilizing a thermal laser that kills up to 99% of the bacteria, which happens to be the cause of periodontal disease, without having to significantly excise or eliminate gum tissue, represents a quantum leap in treatment. Laser treatment translates to keeping nearly all the gum tissue, as there is no cutting or suturing involved with this method. If there is no cutting and suturing there is no pain and time loss from work or other activities, as there is no significant recovery time involved. Retaining nearly all the gum tissue ensures that there will be a minimal loss of tooth and bone structure after the surgery. In fact an ancillary, or side effect, is the regeneration and reattachment of the gum tissue to the tooth and bone, plus possible bone and ligament regeneration. This is never seen in non-laser methods for periodontal surgery.

This is a FDA approved technique, and is the only approved soft-tissue patent involving lasers. LANAP or, Laser Ablation New Attachment Procedure, is a laser modality created specifically for periodontal disease and will eventually be the established treatment in the future. Conserving the gingival tissue while eliminating logarithmically the microorganisms of disease is the key to successful periodontal treatment and surgery, without these the possibility of disease regression is increased. Laser is a physical and mechanical way of destroying pathogenic or disease causing organisms and proteins, these organisms have no way of counteracting the effects of laser, as there can be no possible immunity as with antibiotic treatment. Methods that implement local or systemic antimicrobial drugs or solutions increase the likelihood that bacteria will become immune.

Laser Assisted Smile Design

Perio-esthetic laser dentistry is the latest technology in the treatment of the soft tissue of the smile, incorporating the gingival aspects or gum tissue as an essential ingredient of smile design. In effect the prettiest teeth shall not compensate for uneven, unhealthy, swollen and angry red gums. The gingival tissue in essence frames each individual tooth, helping to enhance the tooth and adding to the over-all orchestration of the smile. Constructive and imaginative manipulation of the gum tissue can provide the necessary illusion to create the perfect smile when the anatomical aspects of the oral cavity and the face do not permit it. Laser is used to intimately negotiate the curves and folds of the gingival tissue without having to cut and suture them. The laser allows for free flowing sculpting and description of soft tissue by using an ergonomic pen-like laser handgrip. This is a painless and quick method of achieving an exact and precise design of gingival tissue that will match and enhance the smile, especially when incorporating new porcelain veneers to alter the smile.

Laser Assisted Root Canals

The laser-assisted root canal is an important departure from how endodontic therapy is normally approached. This method combines classic instrumentation of the canal with the anti-microbial and bio-stimulating effects of the laser. Laser is super coherent light, meaning it is a highly focused monochromatic light that produces thermal and photo effects on microscopic microorganisms that have no protection from this type of light. It is the equivalent of receiving the full rays of the sun without the protection of the many layers of atmosphere that surround the earth. Light is a penetrating modality, meaning that it can pass through layers of skin, tissue and bone because of its reflection and refraction.

     How cool is your dentist!
(Not as cool as my Laser Dentist)

My dentist uses the new Waterlase MD Dental laser to treat my teeth without a drill, and with fewer shots and less anesthesia. That means less time in the dental chair and more time practicing my cannon ball.

Most dental procedures can be performed with no pain, virtually eliminating the need of anaesthesia in most cases.

Your Family deserves the Best!
